I started
my yoga life in the 70's
(way before it was cool) at the Sivananda School of Yoga, which was
then situated in Bree Street, Johannesburg. I started
teaching by
chance, when my teacher went on holiday. This opportunity
deepened my personal practice and thus began a love affair with
teaching yoga.
Teaching at the Ishta Yoga Studio is another blessing. My teaching style is
eclectic,
mixing and matching various styles of yoga, although I do favour
vinyasa or flow yoga. My hatha classes
may be
inspired by something I have read , eg "Now is the time to know that
all we do is sacred …
Or we may work with a theme such as the earth; moon; chakras, etc.
I also love teaching Ashtanga Yoga as it gives me the
opportunity
to be "hands on" and assist with adjustments. Don't be afraid
of
ashtanga, while it is a physically demanding practice, it can be
modified and offers the full range of asanas in one class. As
students become familiar with the series (which is repeated in the same
format each class) breath and movement become one and the state of yoga
(union) is reached.
